Penn Street 142-6 (G. Culbert 62*; Aftab 3-19) beaten by Hatters 143-7 (Waqas 21; C. Sempill 3-19) by 3 wickets
Penn Street lost their first game of the season against Hatters on Sunday April 20th, despite a great team effort to get themselves in a position where the match was up for grabs.
Setting a total of 143 in 40 overs, we had Hatters 6 down before they'd even put 100 on the board, but the lads couldn't quite finish the job, eventually losing by 3 wickets. Praise should go to George Culbert for a superb, stylish fifty holding our innings together, and also to Calum Sempill for his fantastic spell of 8 overs where he ripped through the Hatters top order with 3 wickets.
Notable performances:
The match was also notable for the return to playing of our Chairman Dave Lander and paceman Reece Raven. Also, welcome onboard to Martin Hallam who opened the innings with a vital 34 that set us on our way.
Both Dave and Reece enjoyed successful comebacks, most notably Dave who reportedly claimed a slip catch and dramatic runout with a direct hit from approximately 60 yards out!!
(Official Measurer - D. Lander !!)
A great effort in the field by all and a highly encouraging start to the season.
