Penn Street 155-10 (C. Fletcher 43) beaten by Morgan 156-7 (R. Raven 3-25) by 3 wickets
On a warm and humid Saturday morning Cherriott was hoping NOT to extend his 100% record this season. The pitch was looking good as ever; the sun was shining and we were ready to go….. Well almost! Just for a change our opposition (Morgan CC) fell foul to trying to find PSCC without Sat Nav! They arrived a bit late but no matter, The Street were ready to open a whole can of whoop-arse on their unsuspecting opponents!
The Street lost the toss and were put into bat. Fletch started off playing his shots as usual with Stu Thompson digging in at the other end. Runs were coming at a steady rate when a bowling change prompted the ball to start swinging like Robbie Williams at the Royal Albert Hall! Both openers fell quickly which in turn brought the scoreboard to a grinding halt. The ball continued to mis-behave all innings with The Street finishing on 155 all out. Not a bad effort, considering the conditions.
With arguably one of the best pace attacks PSCC have had in the same side for some time, the mood was upbeat and The Street took the field with the enthusiasm of Shane Warne in a sweet shop above a McDonalds. Things started well with Reece making a breakthrough early on. Wickets were falling regularly but runs were also leaking through the usual avenues. Cherriott decided enough was enough and brought himself on to bowl. The troublesome shoulder had other ideas though so the spell lasted just 2 balls before Nick Loftus was dropped in at the deep end to take over. The ever reliable Nick took a wicket with his second ball and left Morgan CC with something to think about. After much toil from all the bowlers we just weren’t good enough on the day, so Cherriott’s 100% record continues…!!
Another great day’s cricket against an opposition that would be welcomed back to PSCC any time.
