Penn Street CC 179-6 lost to Penn and Tylers Green CC 206-3 by 27 runs
A T20 match on a ground with two short boundaries and a notoriously good batting track was always going to be a high scoring affair and so it proved to be. Having said that, it would’ve been somewhat less high scoring if anyone on the PSCC side could catch.
But let us focus on the positives and not on the 8 dropped catches (possibly more, as most people stopped counting after that). Vish Goundar bludgeoned 61 off just 37 balls. Chris Lovewell made 42, his highest score since the pandemic. Captain James hit not one, but two sixes (we didn’t celebrate the second as it was passe by then). Jamie Fryer bowled PTGCC/HWCC legend Matt Lance for just three.
Unfortunately, what no-one could do was dismiss Elliot Scott, who was the beneficiary of at least half those dropped catches and who hit 8 sixes and 8 fours on his way to an unbeaten 103 (most of those boundaries felt like they came off the writer’s bowling, which they probably did).
Grumbling aside, it was great to be playing PTGCC again after so many years, the spirit amongst the two teams was excellent and we can look forward to hosting them at Penn Street this coming Sunday.
PSCC: Vish Goundar, Chris Lovewell, Sam Saunders, Jamie Fryer, James Sempill (c), Sam Martin (wk), Jeremy Knox, Matt Hewlett, Charlie Partridge, Richard O’Hagan, Archie White
