about Penn Street
We are lucky enough to play our cricket in a stereotypical village cricket setting, in a lovely village and with a pub as our clubhouse! Cricket has been being played on this ground in Penn Street since at least 1884.
Open to both men and women, we play friendly games throughout the season on both a Saturday and Sunday from mid-April to end of September and subscribe to the idea that anyone involved will get a game, whatever their ability.
We consider ourselves a very family friendly side, with a thriving junior section (our Squirrels) and families are welcome along to our games, our events and activities, and also on our international tours.
Every year we have a domestic tour at the end of July for players over 18. For many years this was to Worcester, where we had games against teams that we were pleased to call friends, but we are likely to be changing this up this year.
We have been lucky enough to enjoy several overseas tours as well, to the likes of Barbados, Sri Lanka and South Africa in recent years. This is, of course, a family affair, and has seen us playing and winning at the Singhalese Sports Club in Columbo (international ground), losing every single match in South Africa but very definitely holding our own socially, and swimming with turtles in Barbados.
We have been called “the little club with a big heart’’. Since 1980 we have raised over £100,000 for The Lord’s Taverners and local charities, organising a number of charity cricket matches. In 2014 we had our “100 Not Out’’ charity bike ride to Ypres and raised almost £10,000 for the Royal British Legion and Help for Heroes, and in 2017 we raised £11,200 for the Foundation of Goodness in Sri Lanka. The coming seasons we are supporting Opening Up Cricket, which is a charity very close to our hearts.
Fancy a go? Come have a chat with us at one of our matches, or reach out via the website.
